Inside the Field: Full Bracket Set for Lagos City Championship

The Lagos City Championship bracket is officially locked. Sixteen of the city’s finest one-on-one players will compete across four rounds to determine who represents Lagos at the VBL National Finals.

The draw

The bracket has produced some genuinely fascinating first-round matchups. The headline clash sees third seed Tunde Adeyemi face wildcard Femi Coker, who earned his spot by winning the Lagos Open qualifier just three weeks ago. Coker is an unknown quantity — nobody has footage of his game — and that unpredictability could be a significant advantage.

Top half

Dayo Okafor anchors the top half of the bracket and faces Chidi Okoro in the opening round — a rematch of their closely contested encounter at last year’s regional qualifiers, which Okafor won by just two points. Okoro will be motivated by that near-miss and should not be underestimated.

Bottom half

Kweku Mensah anchors the bottom half. His route to the final runs through Lagos locals Seun Eze and Jerome Nwosu — two players who will have the crowd firmly behind them in every round they play. Mensah, as an Accra representative in the cross-city invitational format, will need to block out that noise completely.

The championship begins Saturday 4th April at the VBL Arena, Lagos. Gates open at 2:00pm. First match tips off at 3:00pm.
